John 21:15.
May God, Jesus Bless You and Me. Amen.
mmlay in JESUS.
This chapter starts with Jesus showing Himself again to the disciples. Let's look at the scriptures. John 21:1-2 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

Peter was telling the other disciples that he was going fishing and they joined him. They did not see that Jesus was standing on the shore. John 21:5 "Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.

Jesus told the disciples to cast the nets to the right side of the boat. When they cast the nets they were not able to draw in the nets because there was an abundance of fish. Then the disciple that Jesus loved spoke to Peter. John 21:7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

Jesus had prepared a meal for the disciples fish and bread next to a fire.  Peter denied Jesus three times standing near a fire and we will read on that Peter tells Jesus three times that he loves Him near a fire. What does fire do?  I will add that the Holy Spirit spoke to me while writing this "notice there was no wine?" Then the scripture. Matthew 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. Amen?!?

Jesus asks Peter how much do you love me? John 21:15-1715 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Jesus said to Peter, "lovest thou me more than these?" Who was Jesus referring to? Some say different things. I feel in my spirit Jesus is speaking of the fish that Peter and the disciples caught in their net. Jesus wanted to know if Peter loved Him more than his fishing occupation. Jesus wanted to know if Peter went back into the world. Had Peter forgotten his first love? Peter  met Jesus while fishing what did Jesus tell Peter.  Matthew 4:19 And he said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Let's read on....

Jesus asks Peter three times, "lovest thou me?" We must ask ourselves do we love Jesus? "loves thou me?"  Apostle Paul said in Philippians 3 " that I may know Christ" and "that I may win Christ" Amen?!!? We must strive to do the same. Do we love Jesus more that our occupations? More than the world? More than our children? Our spouses? Is Jesus your first love?

Jesus then told Peter the death he would endure. Lets see. John 21:18-19 18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

Peter now questions Jesus. John 21:20,21 20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

Peter is asking Jesus what John will be doing. Jesus replies, 22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. Jesus was telling Peter it is not your concern. Jesus had told Peter what he needed to do. Peter should not be concerned about the plans Jesus had for John. Jesus told Peter, "follow me" we are to do the same. Amen?!!?

John 21:23 23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

We see they misinterpreted Jesus back then too. Jesus did not say John would not die. Jesus said, " but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?" Jesus was kind. He could have told them to just mind their business and follow Him. But he kindly told them they each had a calling and it was not their concern to know the calling of others. Amen?!?!

In Jesus name with love,
Cassie
